According to a recent study, Bitter Melon peptides could significantly reduce blood sugar levels in individuals who had not responded to medications.
Participants were assigned randomly assigned to one of two groups of 20. One group was given a Bitter Melon supplement containing 600 mg of Bitter Melon. The other group of 20 was given a starch placebo. The study lasted 3 months. All the participants had Type 2 Diabetes and had been treated with oral medications but had not been able to reach their treatment targets.
The study results found a significant reduction in both fasting plasma glucose (FBG) and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) in the group supplementing with the Bitter Melon. All of these individuals like all of the study participants had been unable to reach treatment goals when using more than one anti diabetic medication.
There are at least 228 ingredients that have been verified in Bitter Melon. Some of these phytonutrients directly contribute to the results seen with this study, significant reductions in blood glucose levels. This is important since the International Diabetes Federation points out that there are over 462 million individuals who are affected by Type 2 Diabetes worldwide and as many of 2/3 of these people have not been able to achieve their treatment goals with medication.
Additional clinical trials are needed.
